How it all started...

Tony Coveña's earliest topsport experience was at a young age in the Dutch National Team for soccer and cricket. A extreme hobby, go–karting, from father Henk Covena exposed him to the excitement and speed of the motorised sport.

His first successful experience with the motorised sport in a competitive sphere was on a minibike. After riding the Dutch National Championship  and finishing 2nd overall, the next step was the NK 125cc and Juniorcup 125cc. His first year on a propper bike was a big learning curve. As a debutant he managed to get top ten positions and a fastest lap at Assen good for top 5 positions.

Tonys second year in the 125cc was at the IDM with Team Sachsenring which unfortunetly, due to contiuous technical problems, did not went so eventful. Despite the setbacks he still fought for the best possibilities.

In 2009 the decision was made to take part in the German R6 championship  on a 600cc Yamaha. This turned out to be a very good decision for the young Hagenees. That year he had 6 topten finishes ,a poleposition and a 2nd position in Assen. A record that had not been obtained for 30 years in the R6 cup by a Dutch rider.
His vision was set on the European Championship.

2010 was the first year competing at European level.
At his first race in Portimao the young talent experienced a crash were he broke his wrist. However 3 weeks later at Assen Tony was determined to race at his home-ground. With removing the cast just one day before the first free practice it was a gamble how it would feel on the bike. Above everybody's expectations he qualified 15th and finished a magical 7th. With that he proved that he had talent and staying power.
This appearance did not go unnoticed and during the rest from the season he proved himself to be worthy competion to be taken seriously. The season ended with 6 toptens finishes ,2 podiums in Germany and France.

With thanks to his succesful debutant year, he obtained support from Yamaha Europe for the season 2011. He completed the season with 7 topten finishes and 5 top five positions, the planning was more.

In 2012 Tony was invited to ride for team Go Eleven on a Kawasaki ZX-6R Ninja. This was a challenge which he accepted and was seen as a fresh start on a different bike with a new team. The first half of the season was progesive until a crash in Brno Czech left him with a serious injury to his ankle what meant the end of his racing season.

After 6 months of intense revalidation, Tony is ready to pick up where he left midway 2012. Taking a superb second place in his first race and still recovering from his ankle injury Coveña showed his mentality and talent. Throughout the season Tony managed to collect 3 laprecords and enter the World Supersport race as a wildcard entry at Donington Park.

This was enough for the young Dutchmen to close a contract with the Kawasaki Ponyexpres Intermoto team for the 2014 season. With the move to the World Championship a long cherished dream becomes reality.
