After a difficult weekend in Aragon the young Dutchmen was looking forward to start his homerace. Geared up with his special edition Shoei-helmet, painted by Jan-Smit graphics, Tony had a unlucky crash what ruled him out of scoring points.
The first free practice was missed through some technical problems on the bike but quickly repaired before the second free practice. Already improving his PR in the second free practice by 1 second the Intermoto Ponyexpress rider broke the 1:40 barrier in qualifying for the first time. Getting more comfortable with his World Supersport machine every session Coveña qualified within 1.7 seconds of the poleposition.
Although the rain was just around the corner the race seemed to be a dry race where Covena could show his improvements that he had made in the weekend. Together with all his sponsors and friends Tony made a good start and made his way up to 15/16th spot in the first lap. In attempt to overtake fellow rider Leonov, the Kawasaki-rider hit his rear-wheel what resulted in a crash and the end of his race. He picked the bike up but wasn't able to finish higher then the 21th position.
Tony Coveña
"My homerace didn't went as I planned but even though my crash we can be positive about the weekend. The difference in laptime compared to the frontrunners is a lot closer now compared to Aragon which is important as we want to keep improving. For Imola I think we can be strong and with the support of my team we can fight for the points!"
Next race will be in Imola on the 11th of May.
