During the opening race of the season, the young duchtmen scored his first World Championship points. With a 12th place in his debut race Covena can look back on a positive weekend.
During the training and qualifying Covena struggled to find the set-up that suited him on the fast flowing track of Phillip Island. As a rookie in this class Tony qualified himself 20th on the grid inbetween the strong international field.
With a good start Tony graduatly climbed his way up to 16th place in the race until a red flag situation stopped his charge. Restarting in a 5 lap sprintrace the Intermoto rider kept his head cool and did the job. Finishing his first ever race as a World Supersport rider in the points.

“Now I completed my first race in World Supersport I am very happy to say we finished in the points. During the weekend we wasn’t able to find the right feeling for me on the bike which made it very hard on this track. Eventhough my feeling wasn’t perfect we still did a very good race. I didn’t crashed, learned a lot from the other riders and scored important points for the championship.”
The next race wil take place at Aragon in five weeks time. The same circuit where the dutchmen took a podium and the laprecord the year before in the European Superstock 600.
